We value art as open-ended learning with each child, a process of self-expression that is often unguided, yet powerfully motivating and self-fulfilling for children.
Art for our preschoolers is creative, unique, and original.
Mrs. Toni Vigna, Head Teacher
Our Teacher
Mrs. Toni Vigna has been the teacher at Baker's Corner since
2004 and is certified as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). She is a dedicated, hardworking professional who demonstrates love and creativity while ensuring a safe
environment and a well developed program for the
children. We all benefit from her positive relationships with both
parents and children.
Our teacher is approachable, sincere, and thoughtful, and makes parents feel comfortable when asking questions about their child, the program, or the school. A mother of three herself - and with her 11 years of teaching experience - she has much to share.
Mrs. Toni's philosophy
is
that
preschool-aged children learn best through play. The
classroom is set up with various learning centres where each child learns to think logically by creating,
experimenting and investigating.
Her curriculum
is
based
on the individual child's interests. She believes that
choosing projects which interest the children will excite them, helping to improve their
motivation for learning and increasing comprehension.
As well, students are taught to problem solve, to negotiate, and to
respect each other.
When children are
offered choices, Mrs. Toni believes they learn to negotiate, as well as problem solve, which
ultimately helps children to make friends more easily and to manage
themselves in social situations.
Our Facilities
We are located inside of Baker Drive Elementary School, on the south side of the building just north of the staff parking lot. We work in partnership with the school, and thus are granted access to their gymnasium every day, as well as the outdoor playgrounds.
Our preschool room features a variety of play areas:
an upstairs loft
a play kitchen
dress-up
a puppet theatre
a science corner
children's reading library
parent resource library
a water table
painting easels
art tables
play-doh materials
puzzles
All of our classroom toys, reading materials, and learning games are fun, engaging, safe, and socially appropriate for preschoolers.
